How to Collaborate Outside of Class
Using Google Docs
Let's say you have a group project coming up in your Psych class. Of course, with all of the homework, football practice, theater rehearsal time, volunteer work at the blind puppy shelter you just don't have any time to meet with your team mates face to face. Google Docs is a pretty simple and efficient way of solving this dilemma.
Google Docs allows multiple editors to work on the same project in real time. That way you can actually collaborate on your project rather than blindly dividing up the work and hoping that your partners show up on the day the thing is due. (By the way one of them won't. You've been warned)
Step 1:
Each of you will need a Google Account. It's free and takes like 30 seconds. Plus that's one of the things you were supposed to have done on the first day of Psych class. No excuses.
Step 2:
Find the Drive (or Docs) tab in the upper tool bar. Click on it.
Step 3:
Find the read create button on the left. (Next to that is a boxy arrow thing, that allows you to upload an existing document to Drive)
Step 4: Type and edit directly on Drive. It saves your work automatically every 30 seconds.
Step 5: Share your work. Right click the document link. There should be a menu bar with the option to share. Choose either public or anyone with this link. Keeping it private prevents anyone but you from seeing it.
Step 6: Email, Text, or Smoke signal the link to the rest of the group. They now can edit along with you.
